Determination of the coefficient of viscosity of water
×
Procedure
Measure the height of the capillary tube using the scale S1 (record the height as h0)
Measure the height of the water level in the burette (using scale S1) and the volume of the liquid containing the burette (using scale S2)
Now click on the button Start to start timer. It also open the stopcock of the burette
Record (in table I) the volume and hight of the liquid with time as shown in the frame C at different heights of liquid level
The stopcock can be turned off anytime using the Stop button. This also pauses the timer at the same time.
The entire experiment can be initiated using the Reset button. This also reset the timer to zero.
Calculate the viscosity of the liquid from the equation given by,
where, h1 and h2 are respectively initial and final height of the liquid as measured in scale S1. l is the length of the capillary tube having radius r (is this case l=24 cm r=0.025 cm), V is the volume of the out flowed liquid and g=980 m/s2.
Assume the temperature is 20 ℃.
